While cryptocurrency donations are fast, they are not instant. Transactions are required to be verified on the network they are sent with a number of confirmations that will vary depending on the asset being donated to charity. Time taken will depend on a number of things, including network traffic. Generally speaking it will require a minimum number of confirmations in order to trigger a receipt to be sent or for the transaction to show on your The Giving Block dashboard. \ \ Sometimes (in the case of a [network outage](https://status.thegivingblock.com/)) there may be a delay to a receipt being sent or the transaction showing on your dashboard. In these situations, the transaction will show, or the receipt will be sent after that issue is resolved. \ \ Please consult with the following chart for the minimum number of transactions, approx. time or block explorers to view the transaction. \ \ Remember to add your email address if you wish to get a receipt and ensure that it is correct before doing the transaction. Remember to only send supported cryptocurrencies to the address shown on the widget. For assets that exist on more than one blockchain, make sure you send the correct one. \ \ Sending unsupported assets will result in the donation being lost and may not be recoverable. # Why is the wallet address different every time? When using The Giving Block widget you'll notice that a new wallet address is created every time. This is because The Giving Block uses dynamic wallet addresses. This is done to protect both yours, and the nonprofits privacy that you are donating to. Doing so helps prevents third parties from viewing all of your transaction history simply by copying and pasting the wallet address or TXID into a block explorer. More Info: * [Bitcoin Wiki: Address Reuse](https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Address_reuse) All addresses that are generated are associated with your donor information AND the nonprofit forever. This means that you can reuse the address as often as you'd like or you can generate a new one each time. It's up to you. In some cases, users want to re-use an address because they've added it as a payout address in an app or smart contract. Note that for ETH, after the first donation is sent, the address is converted to a smart contract. The address is associated with your donor information so that every time you donate, if an email address was provided, you will automatically receive a receipt as soon as the transaction is confirmed on the blockchain. # Why do Litecoin addresses not work with some Legacy Wallets? Some older wallet's might not support the all formats of Litecoin addresses. You may experience an "invalid address" error when using the address with some apps or exchanges. If you are using an older Litecoin wallet you can convert the wallet address using this method: 1. Run the address provided by The Giving Block widget through [the Litecoin Foundations' converter tool](https://litecoin-project.github.io/p2sh-convert/) 2. Copy and use the resulting address and use this as your deposit address # What happens if I send unsupported currencies to a charity using The Giving Block Widget? IMPORTANT: Do not send unsupported currencies or NFTs to any Ethereum address generated using The Giving Block Widget. Doing will result in the donation being lost and is not recoverable ### What happens if I want to donate using an unsupported currency? Unfortunately you cannot donate using an unsupported currency with The Giving Block widget. We do have some workarounds for large donations, please reach out using our [contact form](https://thegivingblock.com/about/contact/) and let us know: * The organization that you wish to support * The cryptocurrency you wish to donate * The amount that you wish to donate And our giving team will discuss alternative arrangements for donating. ### Can I recover unsupported ERC-20's sent to a Charity or nonprofit? If you send any digital asset or cryptocurrency to an ETH address that are not supported they will be lost and there is no way for the charity to receive the assets or you to recover them. It is always important to ensure that you are only sending an asset that matches the asset that you have chosen on the donation widget. The Giving Block is constantly adding for [cryptocurrencies that are listed on the Gemini exchange](https://support.gemini.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005868106-What-cryptos-are-supported-on-the-Gemini-Exchange-) as often as we can. ### Why am I able to send an unsupported cryptocurrency? ERC-20 protocols do not allow for us to prevent or stop unsupported currency deposits and your wallet or exchange isn't able to determine if the currency is supported. You should always only send the cryptocurrency that matches the crypto on The Giving Block widget - only send ETH to the ETH address, only send BAT to the BAT address etc. ### Why can't The Giving Block or the charity/nonprofit send these funds back? It is not possible to reverse a transaction on the Ethereum blockchain, and it does not require permission in order to receive a digital asset such as cryptocurrency. If you made a donation via an exchange, it's likely that your transactions were batched, making it difficult if not impossible to show your originating wallet address. ### What happens if I send BEP20 tokens to an Ethereum address with The Giving Block? Do not under any circumstances send an BEP20 token to an ETH address generated from The Giving Block widget. Your tokens will be lost and will not be recoverable. ### What happens if I send ERC-721 Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs) to an Ethereum address with The Giving Block BEP20 Tokens (i.e those on Binance Smart Chain) use a similar address to Ethereum and extend the ERC-20 standard. These are not currently supported by The Giving Block. Do not under any circumstances send an NFT to an ETH address generated from The Giving Block widget. Your NFT will be lost and will not be recoverable. ### What happens if I send ERC20 Tokens on a layer 2 sidechain to an ETH address with The Giving Block Cryptocurrencies on Ethereum layer 2 sidechains have similar addresses to Ethereum, but are not the same. These do not run directly on the Ethereum mainnet. Do not under any circumstances send unsupported ERC20 Tokens on a layer 2 sidechain ([Such as tokens on the Polygon network](/faq/frequently-asked-questions/why-does-the-giving-block-support-erc-20-polygon-matic-token-but-not-tokens-sent-via-polygon)) to an ETH address generated from The Giving Block widget. Your NFT will be lost and will not be recoverable. # Why does The Giving Block support ERC-20 Polygon (MATIC) token but not tokens sent via Polygon? The Giving Block supports the ERC-20 Polygon (MATIC) asset but The Giving Block does not support transfers via the Polygon/Matic network. In order to successfully donate Polygon (MATIC) to a charity please be sure the assets you are transferring are on the Ethereum mainnet (ERC-20 token). Polygon is an Ethereum compatible solution that functions as a parallel network that helps Ethereum scale. Although many tokens exist on different networks, it is important to note that sending assets from the Polygon mainnet to nonprofits using The Giving Block will result in lost funds. All cryptocurrency donations made via The Giving Block are nonrefundable. \ \ Our nonprofit clients work hard to ensure that every token that is donated is put to work as soon as possible. When they receive your donation it is understood that this is made to support their mission and they are grateful for your support. As these donations are often immediately converted into fiat, we do not offer refunds on any donations that are made in cryptocurrency. \ \ We are not able give refunds if you changed your mind, [sent the wrong cryptocurrency](/faq/frequently-asked-questions/what-happens-if-i-send-unsupported-currencies-to-a-charity-using-the-giving-block-widget) or made the wrong decision. \ \ **The Giving Block does not, has not, and will never offer any form of cryptocurrency airdrop, goods or services in return for a donation.** # Why does The Giving Block Support ERC-20 Tether (USDT) but not tokens sent via TRON, OMNI or EOS The Giving Block supports the ERC-20 Tether (USDT) asset but **The Giving Block does not support transfers via the Bitcoin's Omni layer, EOS, or Tron network**. In order to successfully donate Tether (USDT) to a charity please be sure the assets you are transferring are on the Ethereum mainnet (ERC-20 token). # What is the minimum size for a Solana (SOL) donation? The Solana network enforces something called "rent" for each wallet address. In order to support this, there is a minimum donation size of 0.005 SOL for all SOL deposits. \ \ This does not apply for SPL tokens. # How to Donate using a Smart Contract and The Giving Block widget 1. [Pick a charity](https://thegivingblock.com/donate) that matches your organization or project's mission. Reach out if you need help. 2. Generate a unique wallet address for your project. 3. Choose the currency you wish to donate (usually ETH in this case) 4. Put in any amount for the pledge (don’t worry receipts will match the actual amount donated). 5. Enter your donor information or choose to donate anonymously. In this case w**e *****strongly recommend entering donor info*** and using an email address associated with the projects URL to make it easier for charities to verify donations and thank you for your support. 6. Make a test transaction if you like, you can use this to verify the address, and put a screenshot of the receipt up on your social media to show you mean business. It’s a great way to [get some retweets from The Giving Block Team](https://twitter.com/TGBMike) too! 7. Once verified, add the address into the smart contract of your project. We’ve seen this done in a variety of ways depending on the use case. The most common ways so fare include automatically donating a % of transaction fees for token projects, or a % of each NFT when minted. You may want to do this every transaction, or batch them out at certain points to save on gas. 8. Optional Bonus Points: Post the code for your smart contract up so your community can see how you are doing things # Does The Giving Block Support GALA (v1) or GALA v2? The Giving Block no longer supports GALA(v1) for deposits, trading and withdrawals. If you’d like to donate GALA on the The Giving Block, it will need to be GALA(v2). Before sending your GALA to a nonprofit on The Giving Block, please ensure that it is not GALA(v1). At this time The Giving Block can only accept ETH and ERC-20 token transfers sent over the main Ethereum network. We do not accept token transfers sent over BNB Chain (formerly Binance Smart Chain) or (BEP20/BEP2 Tokens). BNB is its own blockchain designed for Binance customers. At this time The Giving Block is not able to recover funds sent via BNB Chain (formerly Binance Smart Chain). \ \ Although BEP20 tokens use the same address format as Ethereum, they are separate networks. When withdrawing from Binance it is important to note the warning they provide when sending tokens over the BNB Chain. # How to donate to a charity using The Giving Block Widget 1. Find the organization's donation widget on [thegivingblock.com](https://thegivingblock.com/donate/) or by visiting the organizations website 2. Choose the currency you wish to donate and pledge a donation amount (don't worry, you can donate a different amount to the pledged amount) 3. Enter your donor info for the donation (or choose to donate anonymously) 4. If you chose to donate anonymously you will be prompted to provide an email if you require a receipt) 5. A [unique wallet address](https://docs.thegivingblock.com/faq/frequently-asked-questions/why-is-the-wallet-address-different-every-time) will be generated associated with your donor details 6. 5\) Complete the donation in a [supported cryptocurrency](https://docs.thegivingblock.com/faq/frequently-asked-questions/what-happens-if-i-send-unsupported-currencies-to-a-charity-using-the-giving-block-widget) 7. As soon as the donation is confirmed on the blockchain a certain amount of times ([different for each currency](/faq/frequently-asked-questions/how-long-should-it-take-for-my-receipt-to-arrive-transaction-to-show-on-dashboard)) you will be sent an automated receipt from 8. You can post it on social and tag @thegivingblock ! # Understanding Allowlists, Approved Addresses, Address Whitelists and Security Holds A number of cryptocurrency exchanges have security features that require cryptocurrency to only be transferred to approved external addresses. These can often have different processes in order to approve them, such as waiting period before the address is enabled, or additional forms of identify verification (such as for larger transactions). These are features that are enabled by the exchange account holder or exchange themselves and are outside of the control of The Giving Block. It's very important that donors take these into account when planning last minute donations at the end of year, and add any addresses in enough time to ensure that they can make their planned donations before end of tax year. We recommend creating a new user account for each integration you enable. This makes it easier to disable a single integration at a later time. If you disable a user account with API access, all applications that depend on the account's API key will stop working. * Log in to your NeonCRM system. Navigate to: Settings cog > User Management. * Click New User. You can name this user anything you like, but we recommend naming the user something that distinguishes its use, such as API User. * Enable the API access for this user account. Click the toggle to enable. This will display your API Key. Copy this key. * Click Create User to complete the process of creating this user. * Your user will now appear in the User Management list. All fields are created for Donation object.
